Toasted Brioche with Ham, Cheese, and Fried Quail Eggs
Preparation Method
Prepare the Ingredients:
Sourdough Brioche: Slice the sourdough brioche into thick pieces.
Ham: Use high-quality, thinly sliced ham.
Cheese: Choose a cheese that melts well, such as cheddar, Gruyère, or mozzarella.
Quail Eggs: Have your quail eggs ready. They are smaller and more delicate than chicken eggs, so handle them with care.
Cherry Tomatoes: Pre-bake cherry tomatoes with garlic and Provence herbs in advance. These will be used for decoration.
Toast the Sourdough Brioche:
Heat a grill pan or a regular pan over medium heat.
Lightly butter each side of the sourdough brioche slices.
Place the slices on the pan and toast until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.
Prepare the Ham and Cheese:
Once the brioche is toasted, place a slice of ham on each piece of bread.
Top the ham with a generous amount of cheese.
Place the brioche slices back on the pan, cover with a lid, and let the cheese melt. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Keep an eye on it to ensure the cheese melts evenly without burning the bread.
Fry the Quail Eggs:
Heat a small amount of butter or oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
Carefully crack the quail eggs into the pan. They cook quickly, so keep an eye on them.
Fry the eggs until the whites are set but the yolks are still runny. This should take about 1-2 minutes.
Assemble the Dish:
Place the toasted sourdough brioche with melted cheese and ham on a serving plate.
Gently place a fried quail egg on top of each slice.
Garnish with the pre-baked cherry tomatoes with garlic and Provence herbs for a touch of color and a burst of flavor.
Optionally, sprinkle finely chopped chives for an additional touch of color and a mild onion flavor.
